This painting is based on the Wagner Operas of the “Ring Cycle” This painting is the mate to Walkures Romping. Inspired by the Wagner opera “Gotterdammerung” (twilight of the gods). This is the last of the four operas that make up Der Ring Des Nibelungen. The operas are based on old German folklore. These are four of the gods in the opera. The strong light source gives flow to the diagonal lines in the painting, as shadows fall across from figure to figure. The contrast of light and shadow enforces the pending doom that is soon to happen. The dog has nothing to do with the opera and is just a thrown in pet of mne that I wanted in the painting.
